The Lampshade: Sustainable PLA (Polylactic Acid) We create each lampshade using PLA—a remarkable bioplastic derived from renewable corn starch rather than petroleum. This isn't a compromise for sustainability; it's a material choice that elevates both environmental responsibility and design excellence. PLA offers exceptional dimensional stability, beautiful diffusion properties, and heat resistance that ensures safety and longevity in lighting applications.

Unlike conventional plastics, PLA is biodegradable under proper conditions, yet maintains its structural integrity and appearance for decades in normal use—resisting yellowing, warping, or degradation from heat and UV exposure. The material allows us to achieve wall thicknesses as fine as 1.5mm in structural areas, creating the delicate, almost translucent appearance that defines the Filigree aesthetic while maintaining surprising strength.

By choosing corn-derived PLA, we're proving that sustainable materials can achieve the precision and refinement demanded by luxury design. It's innovation that respects both craft and planet.

The Base: Reclaimed Teak—Waste Transformed Our commitment to responsible design extends to every material we touch. Rather than sourcing new timber, we give discarded wood a second life of beauty and purpose. Each teak base is crafted from offcuts and remnants from furniture manufacturing—pieces that would otherwise be discarded as waste.

These aren't inferior scraps; they're often the most characterful sections—rich with grain patterns, color variations, and the natural beauty that made teak prized for centuries. By rescuing these remnants, we honor the original tree's sacrifice while preventing quality hardwood from ending up in landfills.

Each base is hand-selected for its unique grain and color, then precisely machined and finished with natural plant-based oils that enhance the wood's inherent character. Teak's natural properties—dimensional stability, inherent beauty, and resistance to warping—make it the ideal foundation for precision lighting, while its warm, rich tones provide visual and thermal balance to the technological sophistication of the shade above.

This is circular design at its finest: waste becomes luxury, remnants become heirlooms, and every piece tells a story of transformation and responsibility.

Electronics: Premium LED Systems Every fixture is designed for LED bulbs, which we specify for color temperature, efficiency, and longevity. We engineer our designs to dissipate heat effectively, ensuring both safety and the lifespan of your bulbs. All electrical components meet international safety standards and are easily serviceable.
